Harald’s House: our vision

Youth homelessness is a sad reality in every community in Australia. It may not be highly visible but on the streets of every city and town, there are young people who have no place to go and for whom nobody cares.

But the community of Cairns is different; and after years of fundraising, Harald's House has been officially opened, giving homeless youth a  place where they can finally belong.

Governed by Queensland Baptist Care, Harald's House is not a halfway house or a diversionary centre. It is a home. A safe, stable place where homeless kids will have supervision, rules, chores and an opportunity to turn their troubled lives around.

Harald's House is also the only home/shelter of its kind in Far North Queensland where residents are required to participate in schooling, training or work, enabling them to take the next step towards realising their potential and ending the cycle of homelessness.

For the past two decades, Harald Falge and his Street Level Youth Care team have cared about homeless children in Cairns. They offered food, support and hope to kids when there has been no-one else to turn to.

The Cairns community has been building on Harald's legacy and every dollar we raise is kept in trust in perpetuity to meet the ongoing operating costs of Harald's House.
